The Confederacy signed the Treaty of Greenville in 1795 with the U.S. Government. During the 1940s, many Gun Lake Tribe members served bravely in the U.S. Military in WWII.
In 1993 the Tribal Constitution was drafted and in 1999 the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians (Gun Lake Tribe) gained Federal recognition. The tribe’s constitution was adopted a year later in 2000.
